This is an update from our Shine team with regard to the Akkedis Fees which was recently held in Villiersdorp- Well done to Izel Botha and her team:
On Saturday morning, 5th of May 2012, Villiersdorp’s Shine Organisation played host to the ‘Vonkel Vrou Breakfast’ competition in one of the venues in our town.
The concept behind the competition was for ladies to purchase a table for ten guests (whom ever they wanted to invite) and then decorate this table to the best of their creative skills where after some well known celebrity judges such as Sandra Prinsloo (Actor and presenter), Loren Pienaar (Huisgenoot) ,Deon vd Westhuizen (Huisgenoot), Theo Barkhuizen, judge the decorative efforts.
The participants really went out of their way to win the trip to Mauritius which was up for grabs as first prize and Zelre Van der Merwe from Patrys Kop Farm in Vyeboom won first prize!
See the following photos below to get some idea on what care went into this event- The banquet hall really looked amazing!
A group from all over the country attended The Elliotts painting course this past week and they thoroughly enjoyed our beautiful town as they dined at the local restaurants, and lodged at various resident guest houses and all of them remarked on the fine hospitality which Villiersdorp offers. A great advert for our town!

De Villiers Graaf High School celebrate their 140th Birthday this year and they had a benefit Wine Auction last Saturday where their gracious and elegant guest artist was Dowwe Dolla…
Who held the evening beautifully together and assisted local auctioneers Dale and Mel Elliott in getting the bids rolling. Her humour and stories seemed to compliment the 55 lots of lovely assorted wines from in and around Villiersdorp; and other bargain hampers.
The evening was well supported and the High School can feel proud of the goodwill and prestige with which it carries into the next 140 years. De Villiersgraaf High School and Shine would like to thank Fairview Wines as the main sponsor for the evening as Gabriels Kloof Restaurant for the provision of the beautiful eats….
On Friday, 04 April, Emo Adams and his band gave a Villiersdorp 700 strong audience an electrifying performance, taking them back in time to some of the old and later on bringing in the old and local stuff… His Tome Jones, Elvis, Jackson and Simon & Garfunkel impersonations were out of this world.
There was something in it for the younger crowd too and it was clearly evident with the amass of screaming that hi got from his fans when he introduced ‘Baby, Baby…’ by ‘Justin Bieber’ and Bruno Mars’s-‘ Amazing’…
‘Adams’ preaches and maintains during and in his performances that “music brings people together..” and this was clearly evident with so many differing races and cultures in the Huis Genoot Tent enjoying his production on Friday night.
I feel he just keeps getting better and better- One leaves his shows feeling positive about life and we say well done to Emo and his colleagues, and we look forward to seeing him back here again soon!

This is the latest news on the Alwyn Vintcent, and she is still due to arrive in Villiersdorp:
“There’s been a delay! The trailer’s in Kariba!
(( Waiting for Hermann to upload this:
Advertising on the Hull During Transport
During the Move of the Hull and Superstructure, the Media are going to be keeping a close eye on the Great Trek! We saw an advertising opportunity in this, and started selling space for banners of about 1 metre square, at R5 000. The advertisements are mostly in connection with Agricultural Products and Services, partly because everybody knows it’s a ‘Bunch of Crazy Farmers’ who are responsible for saving this Historic Vessel! Partly also, it’s because those are the firms we know, support and can ask!
The campaign has been enormously successful, but there’s still time to book your space on the Hull! Contact Elma on dvijoeningwerke@telkomsa.net or 021 840 1104.
The planned date for the move, for the second week in May seems to have been delayed by ALE’s special trailer having a job to do at Kariba on the Zambia side. The earliest alternative will be early June, but we will be keeping this website posted all the time!”
